I love this publisher!

How great is this? A spotlight in Woman’s World!

Lyrical Press has done so much good publicity for my Vintage Sweets series. Lots of giveaways. (HINT: I still have some e-book giveaways for DEADLY SWEET TOOTH. I’d love to give them to readers who will consider giving the book a review on Amazon or Goodreads or both.)

Please email me at kayegeorge at gmail dot com and I’ll hand them out to the first comers. I’m not only grateful for this publisher, but also my wonderful fans and readers!

ARE YOU LISTENING?

How are you coping through our disaster? Are you bingeing TV shows? Movies? Reading lots of books? Are you listening to audio books?

If you’re doing audio books, I have an offer for you!

The publisher of my new Vintage Sweets cozy mystery series has given me a bunch of audio books (6) to give away, lucky you! The book is REVENGE IS SWEET. Here’s a little bit about it.
*****
In the picturesque tourist town of Fredericksburg, Texas, Tally Holt has opened a new candy store with a vintage twist . . .but there’s no sugar-coating a nasty case of murder . . .

Tally Holt has poured her heart, soul, and bank account into Tally’s Olde Tyme Sweets, specializing in her grandmother’s delicious recipes. Tally’s homemade Mallomars, Twinkies, fudges, and taffy are a hit with visiting tourists—and with Yolanda Bella, the flamboyant owner of Bella’s Baskets next door. But both shops encounter a sour surprise when local handyman Gene Faust is found dead in Tally’s kitchen, stabbed with Yolanda’s scissors.

The mayor’s adopted son, Gene was a handsome Casanova with a bad habit of borrowing money from the women he wooed. It’s a sticky situation for Yolanda, who was one of his marks. There are plenty of other likely culprits among Fredericksburg’s female population, and even among Gene’s family. But unless Tally can figure out who finally had their fill of Gene’s sweet-talking ways, Yolanda—and both their fledgling businesses—may be destined for a bitter end . . .

New Year, New Series!

This blog appeared on Killer Characters (Where the characters do the talking...) 1.4.2020

by Tally Holt, owner of Tally’s Olde Tyme Sweets in Fredericksburg, TX
from the Vintage Sweets series, upcoming in March

I’m feeling lucky, starting a new year in my very own shop. I wouldn’t be here if my friend Yolanda Bella hadn’t urged me to move here and rent the space next door to her place, Bella’s Baskets. I’ve hired a good crew, I think, to help me sell my vintage sweets.

It was a stroke of serendipity that my grandmother arranged to have her recipe box sent to me after her death. For one thing, going through those index cards in the old metal box brought back sweet memories of the precious woman who had helped raise me. She had come from New Jersey to Texas and always retained a fondness for the old place. When I tried a couple of the recipes, the smells and textures almost brought her back to life in my kitchen.

I wasted no time selling my bakery in Austin and setting up a vintage sweet shop, using her recipes for my basic products. I think I’ll ring in the New Year with the Irish Cream Truffle Fudge.

My author, Kaye George, wants you to know that my first adventure is on preorder at https://www.amazon.com/Revenge-Sweet-Vintage-Sweets-Mysteries-ebook/dp/B07TS1KJ4T/

But, better yet, you can enter a Goodreads Giveaway that our generous publisher, Lyrical Press, has set up, to WIN a free copy. It goes until January 17th. Good luck!!

COMING UP

My new newsletter and Facebook header

I put out my sporadic newsletter today. If you got it, you can skip this blog—it’s a partial recap. If you do NOT get my newsletter, and want to, let me know in these comments!

For quite a while now, I use the same format, mostly, which includes what’s coming up, books, stories, appearances. I realized, putting the newsletter together, that I have some things coming up. I’d like everyone to know about them, so I’ll put them out here, too.

WHAT’S COMING UP NEXT

--I’ve been asked to be on a panel at Mystery in the Midlands, June 22, in Columbia SC! It’s a day of workshops and panels put on by Southeast Chapter of Mystery Writers of America and the Palmetto Chapter of Sisters in Crime, for mystery writers, readers, everyone. My panel is full of top notch writers, and me too! Special guest Nancy Pickard, will be interviewed by Cathy Pickens. Info is at: https://www.evensi.us/mystery-midlands-st-paul-lutheran-church/311494925

--Mystery in the Pines, an afternoon mystery event at the White Pine Bookstore in White Pine TN, September 7, 2-5 pm. Games, contests, snacks, and mystery writers—some there, some Skyping in.

--In October, Darkhouse Books will publish an anthology, MID-CENTRY MYSTERIES, which will contain my short story, “Life and Death on the Road.” I ripped it from my own brother’s life, using the time he ran away from home and joined the carnival. Yes, he did!

--Bouchercon, Oct 31-Nov 3, in Dallas, where I lived for nearly 20 years. Details on that conference aren’t out yet.

--Left Coast Crime, San Diego March 12-15 2020. More on this later.

--“Revenge Is Sweet” release from Lyrical Press, March 2020 (!!!) Cover and pre-order info coming.

PLUS, the next meeting of the off-and-running Smoking Guns Chapter of Sisters in Crime will be June 22nd, 1 pm at the Bearden Public Library. Details here:

Projects, Projects, Projects!

I always think it’s better to have too much work than not enough. Maybe that’s why I get myself so involved in projects.

I’m very happy that my new agent is trying to find a home for a series I dreamed up awhile back, the Texas Festival Mysteries. I envision my sleuth driving her Cookie Cart (a cookie food truck) from one Texas festival to the next, selling cookies that are themed to the celebration. Let me tell you, Texas has enough strange and wonderful festivals to keep that series going for many years to come. Like this one!

Meanwhile, I turned the second Vintage Sweets mystery, DEADLY SWEET TOOTH, in to my editor at Lyrical Press. That series will also take place in Texas, but will mostly stay rooted in lovely touristy Fredericksburg, nestled in amongst a lot of wineries in picturesque Texas Hill country.

Meanwhile, I’m working on a short story to submit to an upcoming anthology with a deadline looming very soon.

Meanwhile, I need to tell you about an exciting event coming up the last Sunday of this month—a radio broadcast about me! A short piece about me and my work will be read by Jody Sims on WUOT, the local public radio station. The program is called TheAuthors Page and comes on at 8:35 am EST. But don’t worry, they shows are all recorded and can be heard any time.

Most of the programs are about famous TN writers. These were written by the member of the Authors Guild of Tennessee, of which I’m a member. (I wrote one of the scripts that will appear later.) Check out some of these while you’re there. The broadcasts are short, about five minutes. The last Sunday of the month, however, is devoted to telling you about the members of our group. And mine is coming up this month!
